Random stuff

* You can stop praying for good performance of stocks in the tel-com sector. Dad is now properly diversified with a mixture of cash, short-term, safe securities/funds and longer-term & tax-deferred funds that have more potential to grow.

* Comcast cable is scheduled to be cut off at Yarmouth on August 21, 2008.

* Cavalier will provide service for phone and (very-fast 15 mbps) internet. They will send a modem to Yarmouth with installation instructions, likely the first of next week. the phone number will probably be 443-901-1264.

* The forms are complete for transferring the car to Paul; I'll forward to him when he returns my call.

Finally, my thoughts from the weekend, with apologies in advance that this is only based on 30 hours of observation. (I'm sure every day brings a new challenge.):
^ Mom was angry that I was there, but I threw her off by asking a bunch of questions and the next thing I knew she was in charge, showing me around;
^ Mom wouldn't play bingo, but when I said I wanted to go down to watch anyway she went with me, took the cards ($1 each) and she laughed and played the whole hour, even after I left;
^ Mom wasn't too impressed with all of the old people there, but I struck up conversations with everyone that we passed and now she knows something about many of them (if only for a brief time) and they know about her;
^ Mom wouldn't identify anywhere that she wanted/needed/would like to go, but when I suggested we visit Paul at the Village Inn she got up and headed to the truck.

At the end of the Saturday she slept through to 7:00 am Sunday, and after Mass she unpacked the rest of her suitcase and gave me the silver pieces to take back to Yarmouth.

I am sure she could have regressed by the end of the day yesterday, or by this morning, but maybe the weekend inched her forward. Of course the last thing she asked me is whether I could sign her release form.

Final thing: the dedication of the columbaria is at a Mass this Friday at the cemetery at 7:00 pm. I am sure she will call Emily every day, but could someone make sure that she gets there. She might also appreciate family company. (Did M&D purchase a niche in the columbarium already, or is that something we need to take care of?)

Purchase of columbarium space was not yet done. I'm told that Dad was planning on doing so. I have interest in sub-leasing his current 'room'. Want me to complete the arrangements?

I signed round 3 of the followup paperwork for the stock & delivered to Mike Havlick's office this afternoon.

Are you going to get the pic's of Mom's visit to the Village Inn posted soon? ;-)

I put them at the bottom. Anyone care to re-decorate the blog?

I just talked to mom and discussed Friday's dedication. I told her that Levelle and I were planning on going, and one of us would pick her up. We can figure that out for sure later in the week.

We also discussed Jim O'Conor, Jr.'s death. She already made arrangements with Uncle Jim to pick her and Melmarie up to go to the funeral on Weds. She didn't think she needed to go to the funeral home on Tuesday. I don't know if any of you local sprinkles want to press her on that. I have to go to work at the crack of dawn on Tuesday so that I can be home by 11:30 to get Henry where he needs to be. I'd rather not have to drive back down, especially since Mom thinks she'll wait until Wednesday to see Jim and Bette.

I tried to reach Mom by phone a BUNCH of times today before I finally got her just before 7 pm. (I was beginning to wonder if she had thrown out the phone in disgust when she wasn't able to change the channel on the tv.) She told me she'd been busy all day: had gone to the mall with someone there who had a car, sat outside in a garden at the motherhouse with Aunt Melmarie, and had made it downstairs to all her meals. I'm just hoping any, if not all, of the these events really happened. She at least sounded pretty cheerful, except she could get the tv to work. I told her to go out in the hall and flag down help before jeopardy started.
Maybe this is progress! Did you guys get her drunk at the Village?

Great. Mom's already hitting the bottle. I never thought it would get that bad. I guess I should talk to her about the meetings. At least she'll make new friends. Hi, my name is Levelle and I am.....

It's good that we have some pictures of Mom now to put on the posters at her viewing (when the time comes) ;-).

Oh I really hope her day yesterday was half as good as it sounded!

I will call her to duoble check about the funeral, columbarium etc.

Love, Levelle
