Mom's birthday is Friday.

I would love to have everyone over for brunch on Sunday. Maybe someone would like to take her to mass and then bring her over. Just let me know.

And...I was thinking that she might be happier (or at least content) if she could sit in her own room and watch TV rather than be out in the main area all of the time. We could ask the staff to come in and put the TV on each morning and she could decide if she wants to stay or go out the other room. S...I am going to look at a new flat screen TV that could be mounted in her room. She wouldn't have problems with static channels then. Anyone want to chip in?

Not sure what Quinn does to Mom, but I had a very nice visit today!

Quinn had a not so good visit with Mom on Monday where Mom was not interested in anything and didn't want to talk. She seemed depressed. But...today was a new day! (also on the every-other-day-is-a-good-day schedule, I landed on a good day)

When I got there, Mom was eating. When she saw me come in, she gave a very big smile (probably because I'm her favorite ;-) ) and seemed to recognize me. I told her that I would wait in her room until she finished. (totally wondering if she would A.Remember that I was waiting in her room and B.Remember where her room was) Lucky me, she remembered both! Her room was neat and tidy and her bed was made well too. Her outfit looked good and her hair and nails looked good. (although her shoes ere on the wrong feet)

We sat down and began to chat. Sometimes when I visit she talks a lot, but it's all jibberish. This time she had a fair amount of words and even stopped to get frustrated that "she knows the word she wants to say, but can't get it out". We then looked through one of the photo albums there. She did pretty well with high school pictures and better with pictures from her youth. She was able to pull several names right out. I just love visits like this! She also talked about all of the nice people who work there and how much they like her. So...I'm just going to keep that picture in my mind and believe that is how it is all of the time. (at least until I visit on one of those every-other-day-is-a-bad-day days)

PS Michael and Stuart, you probably haven't been able to reach Mom by phone recently due to it's location wrapped around the legs of her nightstand. It was nice and tight and secure though, so no worries of someone stealing it ;-)

Drama Queen

Jim and I had a great weekend in Durham. We went to see Rhett's play in which she had a solo. She did a great job! She really has an amazing voice. The whole show was very fun, although I slept through some of it :( - Jim told me it was good. I want Stuart to post the You Tube link that Rhett's grandfather uploaded. It was so nice to spend time with Rhett, who put up with us until 3am Saturday morning.

It's so much fun to spend time with Shane and Rory, too. Like with Levelle's kids, they are still fun to talk to and don't know everything yet. Very refreshing - they make me laugh!

Sorry we left too late to stop in Baltimore. I am going to come down next weekend even for a few hours to see Mom. I didn't want to stop on the way home yesterday because it would have been 5PM. I am sure that's a bad time. (and I am chicken)

Just to lighten things up a bit...

I found this post created by Megan in the Drafts file. I thought it was funny, so I am posting it now. It was created 7/3/08. OOps...when I posted it, it created itself onto the 7/3/08 date, but I don't think anyone will see it there, so I cut and pasted it here.

And back to the topic of Mom news...

Mom had a visit with the dentist yesterday! The dentist (Dr. Londeree's office, but not Dr. Londeree) said that other than plaque build-up (which they were able to chisel off ;-) ) her teeth looked good. I had been to the dentist the week before and warned them about her Alzheimers and they were very gentle and helpful with her. Other than trying to take her shirt off in the waiting room, all in all, the visit was quite nice and un-eventful.

On a brighter side to this ugly disease, Mom has turned a corner in the area of trust. She no longer dwells on the fact that people are stealing things from her and is now using the gnomes to hold her door open all of the time. Unfortunately this seems to be an open call to the "wanderers", but as long as she's okay with it, I am too.

Happy Birthday to Michael!

I am sure you are having more fun this birthday than ones in the past. With your unprecedented early retirement, we expect great things from you in the volunteer and scuba worlds.

Keep up the great work. I am sure we could use your help in this hemisphere. And we have lovely fish, too.

Take good care,
Love,
Lel

Go Ravens!

G.D. Eagles

I'm posting a picture from the beach by Andy's house in case that makes anyone feel warmer. Didn't work too well on me, just made me feel resentful :)

How's mom?
