From Selma to Montgomery

In March, 2015 it will have been 50 years since the two aborted and one successful civil rights marches from Selma to Montgomery.  In December next year, it will have been 60 years since Rosa Parks said that she was just too damn tired to give up her seat in the front of a Montgomery bus for a white man.

Soooooo....... Melanie & I are thinking of taking a week, probably next November before Thanksgiving, to walk the route of the march.  It is now a National Historical Trail.  It's only along a trunk road bordered by farms and small villages so I don't expect great views but it should be a decent walk anyway.  It is 54 miles and flat as a lumpy pancake so it should only take three days to walk.  We also plan to add a few days to see some historical sites and museums in Selma and Montgomery.  We don't plan on camping along the way like the original marchers but there are no hotels / motels along way so we'd be ferrying back to a hotel in Selma or Montgomery after each day's walk then back again in the morning.  Average temperatures in November in the area are 44 to 69 degrees and there are an average of 8 days of rain with 4.5 inches average precipitation in the month.

Christmas must be coming, we just got our first greeting card

FYI, Melanie and I will be in Baltimore on 16 December to 1 January. Now the Alzheimer's question... did we already pick Kris Kringle names?  If so, how do I find out who is getting the Fatima rosary?

Camino Portugues

Howdy all, Melanie & I are planning to walk from Lisbon to Santiago de Compostella in September. We leave Singapore on the Twooth of September and only get back on 9 October. The plan includes a short side to Fatima as well as continuing on to the sea to Finisterra or Muxia after Santiago. With travel time, the 27 days of walking turns into 5 1/2 weeks on the road. Sooooooo........ can anyone let me know before we book flights if there are any unannounced weddings or other family commitments that may need to be allowed for?
